Racing Wheelchair Ergometer – Design and Development

Racing_Wheelchair_ErgometerIn this project, a racing wheelchair ergometer was developed for performance testing, training and research applications. The objective was to create a system capable of simulating real driving conditions while providing accurate and reproducible performance data.

Initial situation and requirements

In wheelchair sports and biomechanics research, there is a strong need for controlled environments that allow consistent testing and performance optimization. The system needed to accommodate different wheelchair geometries and deliver reliable measurement results.

  • precise measurement of performance parameters (e.g. speed, force, torque)
  • compatibility with different racing wheelchair configurations
  • stable and vibration-free construction

Technical implementation

The ergometer was designed with a focus on mechanical precision, measurement accuracy and user adaptability. Special attention was given to the interaction between the mechanical system and measurement components.
