3D Comparison

Information about 3D comparison (tap briefly to open)

This tool enables comparing 3D models and technical files directly in the browser.

Supported formats:

  • STEP ↔ STEP
  • STL ↔ STL
  • DXF ↔ DXF

3D comparison helps quickly identify differences between two model revisions and analyse engineering changes.

Especially suitable for:

  • Mechanical engineering and design
  • Revision control
  • Supplier inspection
  • PLM and PDM processes
  • Quality control
  • technical releases and reviews

What differences are analysed?

The tool analyses various geometric and technical properties of the models:

  • Geometry changes
  • new or removed holes
  • Volume changes
  • Bounding box and dimensions
  • Surface and mesh structures
  • Differences between revisions

This makes it possible to efficiently detect changes between old and new model revisions.

How does 3D comparison work?

  1. Upload model A and model B
  2. Import and analyse files
  3. Compare geometry and metrics
  4. Check volume, bounding box and entities
  5. Show the 3D view and comparison results

Depending on the file format, the analysis is performed locally in the browser or on the server.

Visualisation of differences

The models are shown side by side to make differences visible quickly.

  • Green = reference model / original version
  • Red = new or changed model

This allows geometry and assembly changes to be checked visually right away.

Analysis functions

The tool supports various technical comparison functions:

  • Bounding box comparison
  • Analysis of volume changes
  • Comparison of surfaces and meshes
  • Checking geometry changes
  • technical revision control

Current limitations

  • STEP and STL files are primarily analysed in the browser
  • DXF files may be processed on the server
  • Exact boolean differences are limited in the browser
  • Very large files may take longer to process
  • Current maximum file size is 80 MB per file

Compare models

Same format per comparison. STEP/STL in the browser, DXF server-side. Max. 80 MB per file.
