Hydraulic Pipe Networks

Calculate hydraulic and heating pipe networks

With this online tool you calculate hydraulic and thermal parameters of heating, district heating and pipe networks. The calculation supports design, analysis and optimisation of piping systems and is based on the open-source framework pandapipes.

The tool is suitable for engineers, specialist planners, building technicians and energy consultants who want to size and evaluate pipe networks efficiently.

What is pipe network calculation used for?

Correct hydraulic design is essential for energy-efficient and trouble-free operation of heating and district heating systems.

Typical applications:

  • Heating systems
  • District heating networks
  • Industrial plants
  • District and local heating networks
  • Refurbishment of existing systems
  • Hydraulic balancing

Which calculations are available?

  • Pipe network calculation
  • Pressure loss
  • Volumetric flow
  • Pipe diameter
  • Flow velocity
  • Heat losses of pipes
  • Hydraulic balancing
  • Pump sizing
  • Heating circuit calculation
  • District heating networks
  • Ring networks
  • Distribution networks
  • Network analysis

How does the calculation work?

  1. Upload a network file or select a sample network
  2. Enable the desired calculation options
  3. Start the pipe network calculation
  4. Analyse the results
  5. Download the report

The evaluation provides all key hydraulic parameters for planning and optimising the pipe network.

JSON import and automatic conversion

When uploading a network file, the JSON is automatically converted into the format required for calculation. You do not need to convert the file manually.

Supported inputs:

  • Calculation JSON of this tool (pipes with from/to, nodes, sinks)
  • Export from the Schema Editor (devices as nodes, pipes as edges, version 2)
  • Typical third-party formats as a graph (nodes plus edges/links/connections with source/target or from/to)

Missing hydraulic values (e.g. heat transfer coefficient, exact volumetric flows) are completed with sensible defaults or estimates. Conversion notes appear in the result notes.

What results are output?

  • Pressure losses
  • Volumetric flows
  • Flow velocities
  • Pipe dimensions
  • Heat losses
  • Pump power
  • Hydraulic balancing
  • Network statistics
  • JSON report

Typical benefits

  • fast pipe network calculation directly in the browser
  • support for modern heating and district heating systems
  • practical pipe sizing
  • optimisation of energy consumption and pump power
  • suitable for planning, modernisation and training

Max. 10 MB. JSON is converted automatically on import to the calculation format (Schema Editor export, third-party graph or native network JSON). Optional schematic block for the diagram. Leave empty and enable demo for a sample plant.
